Re: The 71 4 door
Alright if rago dont take it then ill try and get it out for you
I got the busted up fender off, took alot of prying and hammering. Then alot more to straighten the crunched stuff back out. The bumper, bumper brackets, and core support were all fubared up. The new fender is on and it pretty straight. still got to do a little work to it but ran out of light. looks good.
I think im gonna yank the other side off as well and paint, there was alot of grime behind the fenders causing rust issues. Justin you need to be careful with those cars at your dads, those leaves will eat them up before you know it.

Re: The 71 4 door
I think I'm gonna try to come down & get it out without tearing it up. I'm getting there on the cash. Good thing for B-days!
I thought you said the core support was OK? Well, nice to hear you're getting things together, guess I need to make a road trip & check out Christine. Don't worry about the leaves, all but the 73 should be gone soon enough & it's garage bound.

Re: The 71 4 door
nope the core support was bent back. The new fender is causing trouble with the hood.
Did a gnarly burnout today. It got into third gear and was still pulling hard with the 2.56s. This thing just flys down the highway. I love cruising in it. Cant wait to get the new windsheild and start getting the interior back together.

Sweet. I gotta get down there & check it out. Did you get the Y pipe fixed or are you still shooting rust everywhere?

Re: The 71 4 door
I cut the tail pipe off, installed a turn down on the muffler and welded up the Y pipe as much as possible. I think all the rust is finally blown out of it.

Re: The 71 4 door
Made its first trip outta city this weekend. I got about 20miles out when the damn muffler broke where the hanger attaches, started dragging it down the highway. I pulled off and a guy with his girlfriend walking dogs comes up and says, "hey man your dragging your muffler, I got a hot rod shop right down here, you can pull it in and well fix it up for ya"
He welded a new hanger on it for me and didnt charge me anything, awesome guy, i owe him good graces. Other than that I made it all the way out and back no problems.
I got the build thought out on the new motor.
Its gonna get a 427 with 781 oval heads and a HFT elgin cam
Desktop dyno says its 422hp @ 5000-5500rpms and 470tq @4000rpms.
Not a bad motor for just some used junk thrown together.
Should do great on the highway with a lock up th350c I have and 2.56 gears.

Re: The 71 4 door
I'm starting to miss it now that I got a big enough shop.
At least I know it's getting some respect. You even cleaned off the "drive it like you stole it" sticker, lol.

Wonder how many owners left that shoe polish on there? It looked a few years old.

Re: The 71 4 door
New bumper and brackets. What you think about the push things, or bumper guards or whatever they are called.
Also finally put on new valve cover gaskets and got a straight hood for free.
Rago that is the original motor. 487 heads have never been off. 245hp 2bbl 350.

Re: The 71 4 door
My numbers show 3873 487 is 1971 350 with 1.94/1.5 valves & 74cc chambers or 3876 487 is 71-73 heads, same specs.
Decent heads to use for street use. So you want some TBI heads in exchange for those right?

My bro is thinking about porting out a set of the swirl ports to see what he can do with the flow.
