Glove Box Key Question

Glove Box Key Question
In my 1973 Chevelle, the ignition and door locks use the same square-headed key. That one does not fit the glove box lock, but the lock seems happier trying to use one of the round headed GM keys on my "what the hell did these keys ever go to" key chain. I bought the car in 1985 and seem to remember it only came with one key. Did it originally have a second key for the glove box?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Glove Box Key Question
Originally the square head key should only have been the ignition. The round key should have been doors, trunk and glove box. I think 73 used the E & H key blanks.

Re: Glove Box Key Question
That was my impression. But the guy I bought the car from way back when wasn't caring for it at all and it seemed odd that someone would go to the trouble to make the door and ignition locks match. Oh, and the same key opens the tailgate! The rest of the car was still bone-stock original.

Re: Glove Box Key Question
In my restoration of my 76 Laguna I replaced all of my locks. I received an oval and a square key, ether key will work in all the locks.zucchi wrote:Ditto.77camino wrote:Originally the square head key should only have been the ignition.

Re: Glove Box Key Question
I found uncoded glove box locks at National Parts Depot, so I'm going to get one of those and have it set to match all the other locks.

Re: Glove Box Key Question
On my 73 Monte square does ign and doors. Round - trunk and glove box. My 77 is just ign. Round does everything else.
