Anyone know if the pulse wiper wiring is different than a standard setup? I already have both a pulse wiper motor and switch from a guna I'm stripping.

You need the extra wire harness. It has 3 wires orange white and green.plugs into the extra plug coming out the switch.

Measure the hole in the old firewall for the grommet also. Put it in the same place so the wire does not become to short.

Is pulse same as intermitting? I pulled a bezel from a Laguna today that had a push switch to the left of the wiper switch, is that what I have?

I've got the correct pulse wiper motor A$$'y. Only thing else you'd need is that extra wiring harness.

I did the swap on mine, it's a worthwhile upgrade if you do drive it. Takes all of about 10 minutes really.

Of course the junkyard wipermotor I got off a 77 Fleetwood fried, pulse board seems good, but the motor itself is bad. So its back to two speed wipers for now.

I spoke to someone here a while back about the subject and they went in to detail how difficult it was. Needed wires, needed the right kind of motor, crap to go in the dash. I'll take your guys word for it though. How does the intermitting wipers work? Are they diffrent settings or is it a one speed deal?

It's not a big deal at all to upgrade to pulse wipers. Yeah, you need the pulse style motor and that extra harness, but that's it. Not sure it's a 10 minute job (would take me at least that long to replace the wiper motor), but if you set aside an hour, you'd be more than covered.

The way they work is you slide the wiper switch bar and it regulates how often the wipers cycle (doesn't just have the stops for the normal two settings). I've seen the rotary dial kind of switch in Montes.

Do I just need the harness from the button to the motor? I saw the rotary one in my owner's manual. Or so I thought. But yeah, the two regular settings... hate it.

I've got the round knob one, the hardest part is the snaking of the two-wire pulse harness through the hole below the washer bottle, over the brake booster mount, and to the motor.

The motor I got from the junkyard had the B/C/D body pivot that's too short for our cars. Swapped that out and bolted it back in, along with adjusting the park position a bit. So I was exaggerating a bit, but it still took me less than an hour to install it.

From what I understand of the circuit, it's basically a rheostat that operates a thermal relay (like a turn signal flasher) and the more voltage you apply, the more often it cycles, and almost all on the motor.

Now you've got me ready to order that motor for my car, since its been my DD for the last 3 weeks.

The control is a rheostat, but there is actually a timer circuit in the w/w motor itself that reads the value of the rheostat. (I did a lot research when I was upgrading to delay wipers and a real multifunction lever like I got attached to in one of my trucks.)

Do you guys have any ideas where I could locate one of the turn knob style switchs? I have the one with the slider lever but it does not fit in the hole on my '74. What if I changed the dash bezel to one from a 1975-77? Would this work?

At least for Montes the later dash is the standard upgrade, since the delay switch is physically larger than the previous non-delay one.  I can't speak to the Chevelles, but it sounds like a similar situation.

If you have the Fisher body manual for 74 (or really any of 73-77), it will show the switch arrangements for the other GM cars -- perhaps one of those switches would work, since they were not all the same.  Otherwise, I think you're looking at dash surgery.

I have the one that has the turn knob, and I pulled it from a 77 Monte, and installed it on my 77 Malibu, no fuss, no muss, it bolted in like it belonged there. I did install the knob from a Pontiac GP because the Monte knob was missing, but since its chrome and looks almost like the headlight knob and the radio knobs I like it.

Those switches are virtually made of unobtainium.
