parking brake cables Empty parking brake cables

Post by 73ss Thu Dec 20, 2018 6:13 pm

Hi all,

Does anyone have any feedback on any of the parking brake cable kits sold on e-bay? inline tube, right stuff, etc? They all say they fit all years and styles.

The main cable going to the pedal and the intermediate cable were different lengths depending on 2dr, 4dr, transmission, etc.

Anyone use any of these kits? Thanks

I did not use one of those kits.

I purchased the (2) E brake cables, that mount on the backing plate, from GM.

I purchased the cable from the E brake pedal, through the frame, from Wagner brakes via rock auto.

I purchased the long E brake cable that goes wheel to wheel, from Wagner part number F112993, from rock auto. Cable is about 1" longer than stock. And yes there are a bunch of different lengths depending on the configuration of the vehicle. But that part number fit my 2 door perfect.

As for the rest of the stuff in that kit, I just threw my original parts in the glass bead cabinet and they are good as new. Shot them with some clear coat and installed.

Thanks for the feedback Joe. I looked at that pedal cable of yours when you had it up for sale and couldn't use it. I need the turbo 400 one.
I've lost most of my small parts over the years.
I'll call them and see what they say.

FWIW, I used a Lokar one similar to this when I upgraded to my G-Force crossmember:

Don't remember if that was the exact kit (I can't seem to locate my invoice from back that far, but I do remember that 8' was juuusssst long enough to reach, and it has worked without fail since.

If you dont need the front cable, i have an inline tube e-brake cable kit. I installed Wilwood rear brake and i only used the front cable in the kit.

Thanks for the replies guys. The ebay link I posted responded back as saying one size fits all. No surprise there. Joe, The front cable to the pedal, Did it come with the rubber grommet that goes through the floor? You are happy with the wagner brand? Thanks

No grommet, I bought an NOS piece. Wagner looks and works well.

I received a parking brake cable hook kit from inline tube and this one is supposed to go in the cross-member. I have 2 holes in the cross-member and I can't fit it in either one without having to remove the cross-member. Does this hook look correct? Thanks for any help.parking brake cables Dscf2712

I have a set of originals and it looks the same. Have no recollection whether I installed it before I bolted down the crossmember or not, though.

From memory, that looks like a correct piece. I installed mine last summer and I even remember back in the day while replacing my clutch that I can remove the piece without removing the crossmember.

Thanks for the input guys. I had another look and my problem is I'm using the TH-400 frame position, cross-member slid back. The hook hits the floor in the 400 position. The drawing above shows the TH-350 position.

Does anyone have a pic of a 400 car lay-out? I have the service manual and it doesn't say anything about the different  trans. It shows the same generic drawing as posted above.

It looks like there a 2 different hooks depending on trans.

Anybody have one?
