Re: Rear end measurement..
Hard to get axle flange to axle flange with the ring and pinion installed. But this is what I have.
73 chevelle rear I have for sale is 54" inside edge to inside edge of the brake backing plate. I put the tape on the outermost circumference of the backing plate right next to the drum. I tried to get a measurement from the back of the mounting plate to the back of the mounting plate and best I can get is 55 1/2" on this axle.
The next 2 measurements were measured at the same spot on the outermost edge of the backing plate.
My original 1973 3.42 rear is 54 1/4" inside backing plate to inside backing plate.
My 77 monte rear in my car comes in at 54 1/2" inside backing plate to inside backing plate.
Hope this helps. If you need other measurements just post up.

Re: Rear end measurement..
For the sake of not starting a new thread I'll just ask here:
Does anyone have the length of the rear sway bar?

I'll measure the extra sway bar I have SonofTheGrim later and let you know what it is.

Thanks much. I'm trying to figure out how I can adapt a new camaro or gto rear bar to my car.

Re: Rear end measurement..
I think Bill wanted the measurement between the axle flanges behind the brake drums, over-all width etc..

This thread was started last year sometime. I was trying not to start a new thread.

Re: Rear end measurement..
it's actually better to start a new thread with a title that is well-detailed for the exact subject matter. That way if someone else needs to search for the same thing you were looking for a few years from now, it will show up a little faster maybe.
