Its a grand Prix yes, but it would be a '70 model. G3's are '73 to '77 models (at least as far as this forum is concerned). If you want to be technical 73/77 Monte Carlos are g2's and 73/77 elcamino are g4's

At $36,000 dollars it would be 8 times as expensive as the highest priced Malibu classic. Hmmmm...

The steam powered Grand Prix still exists and is part of the GM Heritage Center collection.

I have a feeling most of these "undesirable" heavy A$$ wagons were used in a lot of demo derbies. My '74 managed to not get drafted in to one. It did not however evade mother nature. My hands are full in rust repair. But not seeing many of the G3 Chevelle wagons sure does generate a lot of attention. 73-77 odd balls - Page 2 20180511

Don"t mean to burst your bubble, but what you found is a nice example of a '77 Regal. Dead giveaway that it's not a '73 is the changeover to quad headlights used on nearly all post '75 "A" bodies.

Bought this car last year. Does anybody know who owned this car in the past. Trying to find out info on this car. Specifically, where this engine came from, what type of vehicle? Obviously not an original 454, but was done well. Added posi, and floor shifter, dual exhausts.

Thanks

The vin number breakdown comes back to a 350. 2bl.

This is a 454. 4bl. Also, I don't believe they made a Posi in 1974. In the Laguna maybe, but I dont think in a standard Malibu.

I will try to reach out to the owner who consigned the car to the place where I bought it, but I believe he had nothing to do with the conversion either. I love this car, but am more concerned with eventual repairs, and would like to know the origin of the engine, in case it needs parts. I had a power steering pump changed, but my mechanic said the pump is basically standard in 350, 396, 427, and 454's.

So new light was shown during that repair. He believes its a truck engine, possibly a Silverado, or Suburban.

Should be a cast number backside of motor on rear left and can run that number to give you an Idea, Also on the front right Pad IF the motor has not been decked at all there is a partial Number to tell you what it came in if you decode it on the right front pad behind the alternator

I may have to remove the valve cover to get to it. You are talking about as you look at the engine, on the right side in the front? I think the back is almost impossible to get to.

Thanks.

I'm hoping that the engine is unmodified, and hasn't been altered.

My '74 is a base Malibu and was ordered with the 3.42 posi.

Machine shop can deck a block and leave the stamped number pad untouched.
