An in-line Holley electric pump mounted back by the tank would do the job. A blue pump & regulator, or the red pump will work fine. That Edelbrock carb you have doesn't like over 5 PSI, so you need to check the pressure on whatever pump you use.

Got her running! Oil pressure holding nicely at around 50 PSI ( big concern since the last time it ran was over 2 years ago and immediately before a 90mph impact from a drunk running head on into my wife)

JC Whitney sold the louvers for these back in the late 80's. I had a set on an old 77 Malibu back around 1988 but they went with the car when I traded it for an 82 TA. I was lucky enough to find a set here from a user on G3GM. Thx again HDHUGGER!

The new baby! - Page 2 2012-030

Got the new duals installed. A big shout out to Dougs Muffler! A great job as always and cost less than the estimate!

Noticed that I may have some driveshaft balance issues.... Looks like someone had a weight fall off and they strapped it back on with a radiator clamp. Laughing

No biggie, since the next step is getting a 700r4 installed and a 3.73 Posi. That ought to wake her up!

700r4 is a match made in heaven with these guys, I love the one in my 77. If my 73 weren't going to be getting too much motor for one, I'd gladly be using one in it as well. From what I've found you won't have much luck finding one that'll handle over 650HP or so. I don't think the parts even exist.

Fortunately this isn't a problem for 99% of people so the 700 is a dirt cheap way to get faster acceleration and better highway mileage.

Some tips: Get a newer 700 if possible as they were built stronger. You can swap tail shafts if you get one that's electronic and want to keep it all mechanical, that's what I did and it worked out fantastically.

If you plan to drive this car a lot, either have the overdrive lock-up vacuum automated or if you insist on keeping it fully manual then have the switch near or on the wheel and have an LED that'll turn on when it's flipped. I can't tell you how many times I used to bump mine before I finally moved it and I wouldn't have noticed had I not used the LED. If you're going to switch it to a manual valvebody, might as well just have a set up that locks the torque converter in all gears so you don't give up power to the torque converter unnecessarily.

Don't know what your rear gears are now, but when I first got my 700 put in I had 2.73s in. With the 700 in overdrive on 26" tires, this made the motor run at very low RPMs on the highway at about 60MPH, so low that if the TC was not locked up it would be in an unfortunate "sweet spot" that would drop down back into 3rd but when it hit third the RPMs were just high enough to make it want to jump back up into 4th. Needless to say, if your TC wiring is not sorted out, your 3rd and 4th clutchpacks are going to say bye bye VERY fast.

700r4 seems to run hot. An oil cooler and deeper pan with fins are totally worth the money IMO. Then again, I think everyone should have those and respect their tranny. They're cheap upgrades and really increase the lifespan. Spend a little more now and save a lot more later.

I'd say something about the 1 to 2 gear shift needing a good powerband to keep you running smooth, but if you've got a cam in that motor that's as good as what I can see on the outside then you shouldn't have any problem falling out of your band.

Good luck and have fun. Smile When you're finished your next purchase is going to be wider rear tires. :p
