nice project!

about the tires, i have 235s in the front and 255s in the back. its more than enough with my current setup, i hardly get wheelspin from a dead stop. but i imagine that you wont have that problem with that engine under the hood lol. i think that the 275s wont stick out, at least i have a lot of space left

Haven't really tried the engine at all yet, as the kickdown for the transmission is missing. Just cruised with it back home, some 120 kilometers, the day i bought it. It ran very smoothly. The previous owner said he took the oil pan of and checked the bearings, which were fine. He also replaced the point ignition with a Petronix system. Exhaust runs through pipes which I believe is 3", and Simmons mufflers. Very throaty sound.

Haven't found any written sources on the power output of the export version 430 yet, but a guy over at v8buick.com thinks the compression ratio was 8.75:1 , while the non export had 10.25:1 ,360hp and 475 ft/lbs. It should provide me with some torque anyways, and it's only slightly heavier than a chevy small block.

I've loved that color ever since my next door neighbor bought a brand new 1952 Chevy in that color. The lighter limeyer green is too bright to suit me. JB

Wheres my sunglasses, lol. I do not like a real bright color on a big car like my 74 Elky. It is beautiful on a smaller car. JB

This thread sure does show how much hard work goes into a good paint job. If my health continues to improve and I do not sell my 78 first, I will try to get a youthful helper and paint it myself next summer. How many coats of clear went on this Monte? JB

I don't know, what's the common number of clear coats?

The last car That I had painted only had one coat of clear. Looked the same as a factory paint job.

The painter told me that if I wanted to spring for another coat of clear, it would have practically no orange peel. There wasn't enough peel in it in my opinion to go for a second coat. I've seen some of his other work and I believe that two clear coats would be enough for a show car quality finish.

All Dupont products btw.

Yeah, I think it's only one coat on mine as well. All PPG from primer to finish.

Happy new year!

I had big plans for the assembling during the christmas hollidays. But of course, that went straight to hell Wink

First thing I did was to put on the door handles, which was easy. Then I went for the locks, and figured it was best to make sure I had the keys before I installed them. But the keys could not be found! This also ment that the windows had to wait, because the lock has to be in place first.

Edit: when looking at a kit from Original Parts Group it seems like I actually have all the pieces

So I decided to try the trunk. Here I had a new lock cylinder assembly from the previous owner. But when inserted it, it turned out to be to short!.. unless there's some sort of linkage I'm missing.

Another thing I can mention now that the initial exceitement is over, is that I can see quite a lot orange peel in paint. Hard to notice at first glimpse, but at the right angle I can see it. I have an appointement with the painter for som dust grain removal in the spring, so I'll get him to fine sand/polish the clear coat at the same time, and hopefully that'll smooth it out.
