My 76 Laguna has a 2-piece dash. My 73 Chevelle has a 1-piece.

Hmmm..... I just learned something as well. Post some pics of the two different dashes & I'll copy the info over to the tech section.

GM probably had one supplier furnishing one factory while another supplier furnished another. JB

Be my guess as well. But, wouldn't you think each supplier would be working off the same set of engr. drwgs from GM Corporate?

Yeah...and Lagunas were in Canada. Just one of those oddities, I guess.

How can they put out a manual with specific instructions for a 2 piece dash if they came in both 1 or 2 pieces for a certain year? I think the key to knowing which dash you have is in the yearly manuals. If it's not the same as the manuals say, your dash has been replaced.

The two-piece dash is screwed together, while the one-piece is glued or bonded together.

Are there any clues from looking at them from the front (like when they are still in the car) whether they are one or two piece dashes?

Look at a manual and see if the bolts are in the right places for a 1 or 2 piece.

An easy way to tell is to take the glove box out, and feel above the opening for some bolt heads at the point where the pad connects to the lower part.

both of my 76 and 77 Arlington TX built cars have had two piece dashes. I've got a 73 Monte dash pad that I took out long long ago that was two piece as well.
