hello. my name is Derrick, and i'm a long time Monte addict. my dad had a 73 when i was a kid- maroon with a maroon interior- and i've had at least 5 74-77 Monte Carlos of my own in the last 18 years or so. my current Carlo is a 74 that is a good driver, but painfully gutless. but it looks good from 20 feet away..

Derrick, welcome to the forum!! That's a killer Monte you've got there!! Personally, I prefer 73s over all years, but the 74 is also beautiful, and I have one too. Is yours the medium red metallic color? Is it original paint? How many miles on it? Here's mine; it's from Great Falls, Montana but built in Arlington, TX:

thanks.. it looks more killer than it really is. the slots just make the car look mean..
it just flipped 80,000 miles and was repainted about 6 or 7 years ago- and whoever did it must have thought it was easier to mix up a gallon of bondo than find new doors, and figured that a chunk of sheetmetal from an old refrigerator (you can see the outline of the "Fridigaire" emblem) would work better to fix the rotted floor than getting a proper panel. but the color is the original Bronze gold metallic- it is kind of a burnt orange with gold flecks in it.
someday, i plan on making it look like a fairly period correct NASCAR racer, but powered with the LT1 i took out of my old 94 Caprice and backed by a 5 speed of some sort with 3.73 gears. the stock 2 barrel 350 is still gutless and inefficient after swapping in a sealed Power "performer" cam and a quadrajet carb with headers.

put on an aftermarket intake and a 650 holley dp and I bet itd run pretty good, but your gas mileage would go to crap

it has a Weiand intake on it, and an Edelbrock 1910 quadrajet carb.
we all have our preferences, and you couldn't get me to put a Holley carb on my car- especially a double pumper- if you gave me the parts and paid me the shop flat rate to install it. too many bad times trying to get them to work right and then stay working right without adjusting them every time a cloud passes in front of the sun.
the motor is just flat tired, and needs to be rebuilt or replaced. since i've got the Lt1 just sitting there, i'll go for the "replaced" option.

Welcome Derrick,

Nice Monte. Are the wheels vintage or repros? I've always loved those slot mags, and I've just about decided to go that way on my Laguna, and store my 7" rallys.

Do you know what width and back spacing they are?

they are real, honest to god old used Ansen slots- 15X9 on the rear and 15X7 on the front- i thought they were 10's and 8's when i got them- but i traded a rusted out and barely drivable 89 Subaru for them and they are in good shape, so i wasn't pissed.
i don't know the backspacing specs, tho. sorry.
but the tires are 275/60 on the rear and 235/60 on the front, with the rears just rubbing the outer sidewalls on the wheel well lip if the tires are a bit low and there are people in the back seat.if i keep the tires inflated and don't carry any passengers, they never rub. i put in the rear coil springs out of a 92 Caprice cop car i parted out to jack the rear up a little bit to help with the rubbing and give it that just right 70's poser stance. it also stiffened up the handling a little bit, as well, without riding like a C4 Corvette.
i have more pics of the car- as well as the 71 Nova i traded for it and my 84 Regal T Type- in a link in my profile

Welcome to the forum Derrik. If you need any help on the LT-1 swap let me know. We did one in my son's 76 Malibu recently, radiator to the fuel tank. Makes a real nice driver with good fuel economy, updated the AC to R134a at the same time.
