Other than epoxy, maybe filling it with a plastic weld kit? If it's ABS plastic you could try to fill with ABS cement and sand when it hardens.

Maybe file or sand it lightly to smooth out the grove?

I agree, file it or sand it just enough to get out the sharp edges. Then put some graphite powder on it to keep it moving freely.
