Shot some single stage.
Decided to refurb my outboard engine cover. Paint was getting a bit faded but mainly the decals were peeling. Removed the decals, used some 400 on the DA to scuff it down. sterilized it with water based and mineral based wax and grease remover then shot some Eastwood Gloss Black single stage. Added just a touch of reducer to the mix. 3 coats and it looks good. Slight orange peel so it looks factory.
Let it set 3 days to gas out and installed new decals from "discontinued decals" in Florida. They did a nice job on them. Did the water and soap trick prior to squeegeeing them out. Needed to have them floating a bit to line up the front and back curves.
I'm happy with how it came out and I wont have to look at the peeling sticker anymore. Tomorrow I'll put a coat of Collinite wax on it.
Here are some pics. The first pic is with the stickers and glue residue removed.
I really enjoy spraying. You really get to see the fruits of all the hours of prep.

Thanks guys. I remember the old green Mercs. Those old outboards are like works or art.

Great job Joe! That looks really good and just like from factory.
When I went to Mecum they had a motor auction and I was surprised by how many motors they had.
