I have a question Limey. I know that 2 1/2" exhaust is what everybody seems to run on their cars, but for the little 305 is it too big? Maybe 2 1/4" would be better? Just wondering is all.

That's a stout cam for a little 305 indeed. I assume you'll be using something other than a stock converter Limey? I ran one of these when I had my 305 in my S10. It worked out really nice behind the little motor. Very Happy

The Vega converter stalls about 2400 or so. It was a cheap trick used back in the 70's by street racers.

Yep. The Vega trannys were TH350 as well. Slip right in. You just have to make sure your flywheel is a dual bolt pattern where the converter bolts up. But I'm sure most all of the flywheels had that feature. I'd bet you have the smaller, 153 tooth flywheel. That's what I had and not sure if I ever saw a 168 tooth flywheel on a 305.

Limey, I don't think you'l be happy with that cam. Don't forget the smaller the motor the "bigger" the cam will act. I'm not a fan of the 110LSA, kills vacuum, that's me though. You'll also need a minimum of a 3.5 gear out back for that cam.  By comparison, I have a 228/238@ .050, .540 lift, 114 lsa in my 454. I'm very happy with it, 12 1/2~13 inches of vacuum, nice idle, doesn't load up when pulled down in gear, supports the A/C also. Nice aggresive sounding idle, pulls strong to 5700. I had a comp extreme energy in it prior to that, ran it for 2 years, just wasn't happy. stinky idle, noisey, etc. Probably could have got the idle better with a holley HP series carb but didn't want to go that route.

Most I would go with is
https://m.summitracing.com/parts/lun-10120702

Here is the post from the other 305 build posting on cams

The XE262H-10 comp cam is good, the XE 268 is going to be pushing it in a little engine. Lunati has the 10120701 cam and again, the 10120702 is a little bigger, not as bad as the comp 268 so it may be a possibility

X2.

The point I was wanting to make in the previous post is, The Lunati cam you listed is very similar to what I am running. that's how it behaves in a motor with 150 more cubes and a verified 10.07: 1 CR. Take a look at a factory L-82 vette cam for the 305, might be a good choice. Crane offers them.
