Correct oil dipstic and tube for 400cid
Have a 1973 Pontiac 400. The oil dipstick seems exceptionally long. Have to pretty much force it back in. The 400 has factory air. How long should the dipstick be?

Re: Correct oil dipstic and tube for 400cid
After an oil change run the engine for a few minutes, shut it off and let it sit. Then check the oil level and mark the stick where full is. Then mark it about 1 1/2" longer and cut it off. Then you'll know exactly when your full and not have the extra length.
I've had to do it to aftermarket chrome dipsticks.
