Non swivel buckets Empty Non swivel buckets

Post by orange Juiced Sun Nov 09, 2014 11:55 pm

Went to my local yard and found a pair of non swivel buckets. I didn't know the even existed. One of them is really rough, but got them for $60 for the pair. The console was long gone Sad and the car had just been put out 4 days earlier.

Is it just the base that is different for an easy swap.

Didn't someone say they need 75 Malibu tail lights, has a really nice set.

Might have some black interior trim for sale. kick panels and pretty much all the plastics for the headliner with windshield trim

Can we see a picture of the non-swivel base?
What year was the car?

I thought 73 non-swivel was on the option list.

Thanks -

I've never seen that. I'd like to see a pic or maybe someone modded a base so it doesnt swivel. I know the tab that locks the base in the forward position does break off and has to be welded.

To my knowledge, Chevy never offered std. bucket seats...just Olds, Buick and Pontiac.

And no...the bases and tracks are not interchangeable between std. and swivels. Swivels have a solid molded bottom for the swivel base w/tracks to bolt onto.

On a swivel seat base ...the tracks unbolt from the swivel assembly...in fact the tracks from a left swivel seat bolt right up to a 1968 Chevelle with a bench seat. A friend of mine used a spare track (from a swivel seat I had) when his bench track seized up.

The tracks unbolt, but I'm guessing the '68 Chevelle bench track bolted directly to the floor and not on top of the outer retractor like the bench seats for our cars. So, not only is there a height difference on the outer rear leg, but I remember there is some bracketry on the swivel tracks that hold springs or some such stuff that work the swivel function, too. Of course, anythng can be done with some modifications...or, if you don't care about the swivel function.

I believe that if you've got a bench seat car, the outside mounts are there.

The front outer mount is the same for all 3 types of seats (bench, swivel bucket and fixed bucket)

The outer rear of the fixed bucket mounts on top of the retractor like the bench does.

The two inner mounts you're on your own to create or find the brackets.

I think the inner rear is on the same bracket with the mount for the console, though you don't really need the mount for the console.

You can bolt this to a fabricated plate under the floor, like I did.

The front inner is a royal pain if you don't have the bracket. My buddy is making me a pair of blocks that fit the contour of the floor as the bolt hole for my swivels wants to go through the angled area of the floor.

I hope that helps.

I was able to use the tracks from my car and bolt them onto an earlier car, no idea if this helps. I figgered they just put 4 holes in the bottoms of the seats and then chose the tracks.

It came off from a 1975 Chevelle.  Looking at them again, not sure if its the correct seats.

It looks right to me.  even has the retractor still bolted to the bottom of the seat otherwise it wouldn't sit level.  It's the pass side seat.

I believe that '75 was the last year for just a lap belt and an optional shoulder belt, if that's what's got you.  But even the holes in the track are identical to the buckets I have. (two on each front corner)

The upholstery looks wrong, more like Olds, but maybe somebody else will chime in on that.

I think your right Steve. Looking online for Grand Prix seats, they look really similar. Plus my seats have the chrome trim in the back, like the Grand Prix.

The seats were cheaply recovered. and that is part of the seat belt. The outer holes do line up with the factory floor mounts, inner ones were drilled out.

Did you find a good set of rocker moldings off that '75?

I had the same looking seats in my 75 monte back in the 80s. they were out of a late 70s trans am. driver side sat on top of driver retractor and pass sat all 4 legs on floor. the driver also was power.

I noticed on this El Camino that the base doesn't appear to have the swivel lever on the side.

It might be hiding in the shadow...can't tell for sure. Very nice Elkie!

Interesting...as the '73-'77 "A" body cars I've seen with power split bench or buckets have the driver track bolted to the floor and the retractor mounted behind the seat...very much like with the swivels. Just pulled a set of retractors off a '75 Monte with power split bench.
