Alright guys, the plan is to replace the shocks this weekend on the monte and to be honest with you I am clueless when it comes to picking out new shocks. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.............

I like Monroe sensatrac shocks. They are a good value for the price.

Re: Lets talk shocks
I am just as clueless & need to do this eventually also. Another member posted the other day that 50/50 drag shocks were good for the rear because they were great for weight distribution back there.

Re: Lets talk shocks
X2 these are a excellent all around shock for s car that is a cruiser. If you plan to go road coursing, or drag racing on a regular basis you would want something a little more performance orientated. Bilsteins are nice also but pricey.bigredlaguna wrote:I like Monroe sensatrac shocks. They are a good value for the price.

I have Belltechs at all 4 corners, and they work well and are reasonably priced.

Re: Lets talk shocks
I put HD Gabriel Ultras on mine all the way around. They were about 30 each I think. That is what Autozone recommended when I went in. Them so to do great just for dd purposes.

Re: Lets talk shocks
Unless its a street strip car with a good amount of strip I would stay away from a drag type shock. Monroe shocks are good the higher in grade you go the better the ride. But like I said if you are looking for straight line performance and not too concerned about ride, by all means go for a 50/50 drag shock.

Re: Lets talk shocks
What would you want if you want to stiffen it up in the corners and on hills? Mine is still too bouncy for my taste. Would that be shocks, springs or both?

Re: Lets talk shocks
A higher spring rate would stiffen up the ride and make it less bouncy.driveit wrote:What would you want if you want to stiffen it up in the corners and on hills? Mine is still too bouncy for my taste. Would that be shocks, springs or both?

Re: Lets talk shocks
Thanks for the replys guys. I went with the Monroe Sensa-Trac all the way around. Got them for $103 at a local parts store. They should ride a little better than the Goodwrench HD shocks that were on it.

On the El Camino site the consensus seems to be that KYB gas-adjusts and Billsteins are the best choice.

I would recommend Monroe SS (severe service) shocks front and rear for a mid 90's Caprice 9c1 police car. They are the best bang for the buck imo and car handles much better.

Re: Lets talk shocks
Thanks. I think I have decided to save up and go for the adjustable coil overs. That way I can get the ride height where I want it.

I second the Bilstiens. That's what I have on my car. They are pricier, but they are top quality. The ride is very controlled firm but not harsh. I have run Bilstiens on my trucks too with good luck, they last a long time compared to cheaper shocks.
