Re: $200 paint in garage
Day 1 was inner trunk and door jambs. 1 coat of primer sealer. Then 2 coats single stage naason paint (original silver color). No clear.

My days and days of hand sanding the contour of this part of the top quarter panels. Was a pain, but turned out better than it was before.

OUt in the sun. Not too bad for the money. And if it gets scratched, it was only 200 bucks. lol

Looks great. Silver is hard to shoot too, from what I understand. Any runs show up like crazy. Great job.

Yeah, I heard the same thing. And I'm not an experienced painter or body man by any means, but turned out okay. Thank you!

Dang! Great job. What do you have for a compressor? That seems to be out weak point in our paint setup.

Re: $200 paint in garage
Lets say you have a 3.5 HP, 2 stage oiless compressor with a 25 gallon tank capable of 175 PSI. Would that be good enough to paint a car? JB

Re: $200 paint in garage
We used a cheap harbor freight 25 gal compressor for this paint job. It used oil though. Wasn't bad at all just kicked on every 7 mins or so, so had to wait a min for it to build up. And we didn't use a hvlp gun although I had one and we tried it. Just an old gravity feed gun my dad got from sears probably 25 years ago or more. lol Now I have a 50 gal compressor so next paint job on my dad's car in week or 2 should go better. I think it's mostly in the prep work how good it turns out. I'm sanding down and prepping my dad's car now for another cheap garage paint job and I'll work on it 6 hours straight just like today and if someone came to see it they wouldn't see any difference from when I started cause there's just so much small details you have to pay attention to if you want it to turn out good.

Re: $200 paint in garage
That's probably the same compressor we have... 25gal HF. We used a HVLP gun and the compressor just could not keep up no matter what. The best we could do was about a fender at a time and then wait for the compressor to catch up.

Re: $200 paint in garage
I talked to the guy at the place we got the paint who seemed to know what he was talking about and he said to use hvlp you need larger compressor, like 50 gal. I think that's what he said anyways. lol Something that will keep the up. We also had a regulator at the compressor end plus another at the gun. I forget what he said to set it at but he gave me a printout that has it all on there if you want.

We had a regulator setup too, and set it to the recommended pressure. Still didn't help. I think next car we paint will be with a gravity feed gun. We used the gravity feed gun for the primer and had no problems.
