I had those type stacks on my '40 Ford pickup, with a Caddy engine ( naturally ! ) but never made fire like that !

Re: Men making fire
The flame throwers were popular in the late 40s and early 50s, until the cops got really aggressive where I lived. Had those on my '40 Lincoln Zephyr club coupe, with it's V-12 pumping raw gas out the pipes just before lighting it off

Re: Men making fire
In order to make fire with Linda Vaughn you would need some type of friction, no?

That's an early Mark Spitfire by the way. My favorite airplane... There is three exhaust stacks showing through the fire, from what I can see. Later Marks had 6 on the Rolls Royce Merlins.......
The fire from the stacks at start-up is likely not that unusual...
1650 cubic inches there by the way !

Re: Men making fire
I thought you'd like that pic. There is oil on the fuselage under the flames, those Brits were pretty darn brave back in them days. If that fire is normal- hats off!

In those days they didn't have time, pilots or enough airplanes, to be fussy.....
