Welcome!  Take look in the Tech->Electrical section -- we've been accumulating some wiring diagrams there in a sticky.

Welcome to the fun !

I've been through the scenario with the GEN light some years ago. Is your alternator charging ?
If I remember correctly, the light gets a ground through the voltage regulator in the alternator, when it's not charging. (?)

To Joe73 ive got a set of true dual alumnized steel flowmasters i think they are the super 40s
And ill have to check on that gen light thing but when its on my heater fan wont work. And it usually comes on once i start the car and get it some rpms
Had the alternator checked and the guy said it runs like brand new

Good news everyone, i found one half of the problem with my gen light. it seems that my a/c wire ( i unhooked only weiners need A/c) was shorting out my fan i unpluged it also and that made my gen light dim down ALOT so now i believe there is a short inside the cab of the car and yes my alt is charging perfect. its the factory original and its also a numbers matching car

remember where i said it had set for a number of years? well lol... a chipmunk crawled up my pipe and dropped a steel nut in my muffler.....when its at idle and going down the highway idling you can hear the nut rattle. lol
so far as it sits i estimate it has around 280hp
so to up that here is a list of my plan
#1 electric water pump +25
#2 edelbrock e-street EFI fuel injection system +25
#3 Shorty headers +25-50
#4 Flow tech Warlock mufflers +25
-------------------------------------
= around 380 horsies that im going to smoke my uncles camaro with

Not to dwell on the GEN light issue, but I'm thinking you have a bad diode in the rectifier bridge in your alternator.  It can still charge, but likely not at full capacity, and a leaky diode may not be giving an open ground to your light, letting it be dim & not completely off.

And not to try to sell you parts . Very Happy   NPD has alternator repair kits ,for the 63 amp and the 85 amp alternators, for $24.95, which includes: bearings, brushes, springs, capacitor, diode trio, and rectifier bridge. (In their new catalog, it's item 2319 on page 126 )
I keep one of those kits around, to keep my stuff working.
