V6 exhaust
Picking up my 82 Malibu 4 door this Friday. It has a bad exhaust leak and was thinking about finding something to make it sound a bit better.
I believe it is a 3.8 Chevy engine that is original to the car. It has been bored 30 over and rebuilt. I think everything else is stock on the car. It has a 350 turbo and not sure of the gears. I want to start with a better sounding exhaust, but have a very small budget. Is there anything out that that would give it a sporty sound and not sound like someone just threw duals on it?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Re: V6 exhaust
With no converter it will automatically sound better (and louder) Some glass packs would be the cheapest route, or if a little less obnxious is your thing some turbo mufflers should sound pretty good. With a V6 i wouldn't go much larger than a 2 1/4 pipe. imho glass packs would probably sound best.

Re: V6 exhaust
That's the trouble with V6s, 5hey sound like crap no matter what exhaust you use. They are great engines, but... Anything loud sounds bad, think 4 cylinder fart cans. JB

thats kinda why i was pushing for glass packs...or you could try the no muffler route.JB2wheeler wrote:That's the trouble with V6s, 5hey sound like crap no matter what exhaust you use. They are great engines, but... Anything loud sounds bad, think 4 cylinder fart cans. JB

Good chance.its a 3.8 buick. I like the buick engine better than the 3.8 chevy.

Re: V6 exhaust
I dont think its a th350. Id say a metric 200. Are you sure its a 3.8 ? Might be the 229. I think the g/a bodys had them in there too.

Re: V6 exhaust
My uncle installed the 350 as he had trouble out of the original, or at least that is what he told me.

Re: V6 exhaust
Flomaster makes decent glass-packs. Not too much money either. I bought a pair for the Malibu & they sounded good on the test stand. I think they'll loose a bit of sound with the extra pipes on them when & if they get put into service for real. Think I paid $75 them at the local speed shop.

Re: V6 exhaust
If you had duals made with glass packs dumping in front of the rear wheels it would be a pretty cheap "custom" exhaust that "should" sound decent.
