I had this happen to an 80s Buick wagon one time. Only it was the A-arm mounts. They rotted completely off the frame.

I got it all torn apart today, upper ball joint broke off at the socket. It was still held on by rivets, which tells me these are the original ball joints. Thankfully my chevelle is under construction, as I have new ball joints, tie rod ends and poly bushings. I'm just gonna transplant the entire front suspension from the chevelle onto my sons elco, thus giving me an excuse to get new front suspension for the chevelle. I'm thinking tubular a arms, and some different control arm bushings. As too make matters worse, I think the gear drive in my elco, disintergrated. I have been driving it all day when I stopped for 20 mins. tried to start and no fire. After testing for fuel and spark, I figured out the dizzy jumped timing. I pulled the dizzy to inspect, and reinstalled and it fired right up. Now it sounds like rocks in a tin can. I know 100% the dizzy is installed where it needs to be. I'll post pics of my inspection tomorrow.
