1976 laguna budget protouring build
New to this forum and i have to say i am glad to find a forum dedicated to the 73-77 a-bodies . I will start by saying this car is a clone s3 laguna i am not cutting up a original laguna .
I brought this car home it was a rough condition malibu classic i spent the first few months gathering the laguna nose emblems tail panel and swivel buckets with floor brackets . It is all in mock up in the pics and has been torn down again . A previous owner in its past had tried to do a quarter panel that was butt welded the welds were ground down to were the metal was paper thin and they attatched it to the back side of the door jamb all of that has been cut out .
The braking system is going to use 2008 corvette z51 13.4" rotors and calipers on 86 camaro hubs that i cut rotor off on brake lathe at work and machined outer diameter so rotor was a slip fit . The rears are 2002 trans am rotors and calipers 12" .
I have a 1979 trans am 1 1/4 front sway bar and a rear sway bar from a 1994 police car package caprice with the 12.7.1 fast ratio steering box from the same caprice .
The engine is from a 93 corvette lt1 it was put in for mock up i modified the engine wiring harness for stand alone and modified a 95 caprice throttle cable to work . For fuel supply i am using a gas tank from a 96 impala ss just need to lengthen the straps and its a perfect fit .
If anyone is doing a similar swap i would be glad to give info that i have . Or if you have already done this swap i would love to hear how you did it . I posted a link to see some pics feel free to look the other car you will see is a car i built 2 yrs ago and sold it was a protouring 66 el camino/gto called halfbreed .

Actually its name was halfbreed . I liked the elco but wanted to do something different that would stand out . It had a all gto running gear 389 4speed gto bumpers door skins partial quarters dash and so on . Pontiac didnt build it but they should have .

Was the GTO stuff from 66 or 67? Very creative, hope you made $$ on it.

Re: 1976 laguna budget protouring build
66 I did ok on it when i sold it . I take the term budget to a whole new level . I am cheap because i am financially challenged . Now if i charged for labor in sale price i lost a lot of money . But to me its all about the build . Usually when i am done with a car i lose interest and move on to next the project .
When i was 18 i had 44 now a 73 buick gran sport and when this car is done that may be my next project .

I know what you mean...I've lost count of all the hours I've spent on mine (& there's a long way to go still). I'm going to keep mine once it's done and drive it till it cry's for mercy.

Re: 1976 laguna budget protouring build
i havent been on this forum for a few months and i was instantly sorry for that when i saw this topic. i got an lt1 from a 93 corvette as well and im figuring out what do i need to make it work in my malibu. i will also use a 4l60e that came with it.
my list so far:
PCM
electric fan
new motor mounts
gas pedal from 93 corvette (it has a drive by wire if im not mistaken)
driveshaft will have to be shortened and a crossmember will have to be moved back.
am i missing something?
