Re: favorate previous gen. year
Thanks for the tip, JB. That's a a good idea, as new products are always coming out. I looked at Edelbrock's web site and at Summit's Edelbrock crate engine and intake manifold listings, but didn't see any newer design Edelbrock tri-power intakes. I'll keep digging around, though.
Offenhauser used to make a couple different tri-power intakes for small block Chevys. One is the 180 degree small port version that is similar to the Edelbrock. Still available new, but too restrictive for what I want to do. The other intake was a big port high rise 360 degree design (like an open plenum intake, only with a center divider plate running fore and aft down the middle of the manifold separating the right and left banks). I don't think these are still made and not sure how well they perform. I have an old Offy single 4bbl intake in this style I picked up at a swap meet some years back, but never ran. I could always do a little machining and welding and convert it to tri-power configuration. Might be fun.
Also visited Barry Grant's web site. They have a couple interesting tri-power intakes that they use with their own carbs. I'd like to get a close look at them, but we have no BG dealers anywhere near here. Not sure if they would part with a bare intake and no carbs at a reasonable price, but I'm going to call them sometime this week and see what they say about that.
Happy Motoring,
Harry

Harry, I just sold an Offy 2/4 cross ram intake. You might find it interesting. It can be seen at my site http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/19847223

* (Ooops...... gotta repost - can't get more than one photo per post for some reason - OK, here goes)......
Sweet! Love the crossrams, JB. I have an Offy like that and a nearly identical Edelbrock here as well. Here is an Edelbrock XC-8 on a small block 400 Chevy (please disregard mismatched carbs...... They were for mock up to measure hood clearance).......
If I ever get wild and crazy with my '57, I have some rather fiendish plans for one of these crossrams......
