What? I'm confused. What does a welder have to do with drop spindles or coil-overs on these cars?

Front coilovers can be done without one, but I'm almost 100% sure that doing the rears would require fabrication. Do you know of rear coilovers that don't? Who wants to do one end but not the other?

We can have a good debate as far as lowering techniques. Let's hear other people's opinions/experiences with different methods. I'm always open ears & not going to shut out any options unless it's heating springs. We'll leave that at the door since it's never a good thing to do.

Oh man, you're right about a lot of stuff my friend, but you're 100% wrong on this one.

Read my coil-over post a few weeks back. I didn't do any fabrication that anyone here couldn't do. My "custom" spacer could have been done with a couple store-bought washers, and the top plate was nothing more than a 1/4" thick piece of metal with some holes drilled out.

And... I ran the car with JUST the front coil-overs for a while and was very happy.

Hmmm...... No welding at all? I always thought they required welding on the rears. Hydro's set up is what I was basing this theory on, but since you've done it I'll believe you. I admit to not knowing everything.

How much of a difference did just the fronts make & how simple would it be for an 18 year old with no experience (77) to set up properly? I'm looking at it from this perspective; adjustable LCA's are worth their cost if you know what you are doing, but in the wrong hands can really screw a ride up. Just wondering if coilovers are the same? It would suck to put preload on one corner & not know it until it's on the road. What's your thoughts?

No welding. The ones on Hydro's car are the "perfect" way to do it. The ones I installed would be classified under the "bolt-in" catagory. I just did a couple extra things to make it stronger. One of these days I'll pull it all out and weld it up like he did, but they'll work just fine the way I have them installed right now.

As for the fronts, I guess it all depends. Can the 18 year old replace factory springs? If yes, then he can install coil-overs. The entire set up just goes in place of the factory spring. As for preloading, I don't think that's a concern unless you don't know how to measure. I mean, all you have to do is make sure the adjusters on both sides are the exact same, and you're good. There would be no reason to have different ride heights unless you were making left turns all day on the oval.

Again, I disagree. He didn't have anything different on his car that any of us do with exception of the coil-overs. Sure, he had adjustable upper trailing arms, but they bolted to the factory location. He merely cut off the top spring perch and welded another bar across the top to support the coil-overs.

Like I said. His upper and lower trailing arms still bolt to the factory locations. He just modified (deleted) the factory springs and welded up the coil-overs.

I'm with 383 on this one. While Hydros frame was a work of art, it was really nothing too difficult to do. Aside from welding on the mounts for his rear coil-over kit, everything else was a complete bolt on setup. The front coil-overs were a bolt on, and as for the rear set up it wouldn't cost too much to have someone weld the kit for you.

He was when I joined, thanks to you Limey. But I wasn't active on here at first, then I had to pack up my computer because our house sold MUCH faster than we thought it would and we hadn't found a new house yet. By the time we got our new house and unpacked he was gone. I don't even know what happened, it feels like he there one day then gone the next!
