Radio support bracket Empty Radio support bracket

I was going through some stuff and came upon my factory radio. I dont see a rear support bracket. Is it supposed to have one? Cant see all that weight just hanging on the thin shaft nuts. Anyone have a pic of the bracket? How it mounts? Thanks.

Every untampered factory radio I've removed had a bracket. I'll check my spare radios and see if I have one with a bracket.

Joe let me check tomorrow after appointment for cast and will look in the box I took off the monte dash I repainted I swear there was one on the am fm radio I took off to get it out if there its yours

I found a 76 Malibu at picknpull a few years ago that no one had even touched yet. It looked like someone drove it into the yard, other than a caved in drivers door. The owner left a box of extra parts in the back seat(even a replacement door). In the box was what appeared to be the original am/fm radio. Yes I bought it!Radio support bracket 10275810

The radio I have just has the bracket on the left side. My El Camino did not have the factory radio in it when I got it and it’s been 35 years since I removed the factory unit out of my first EL Camino. The memory is a little foggy! Eventually I plan on putting this one in my car if I can test it and it works.

No right side bracket.  On my spare '73 Monte dash, the large side bracket shown on 77camino's photo (which usually stays attached to the dash when the radio is removed) also has a separate small mtg bracket that attaches to the larger bracket for securing the radio.  You can see the two holes where it attaches just to the lower left of where the radio is secured in the photo.  I'm attaching a not-so-great photo (ignore the visible Mustang headlight grill behind it) showing this small bracket installed as looking at it from the back side that would be against the side of the radio.  Not sure the reason for this additional bracket; unless it had something to do with a different mtg position on the larger AM/FM/8-track players?

Ok, I see those two vertical holes toward the bottom of the bracket. Both being to the left of the stud sticking out of the side of the radio and through the bracket. Mcarlo77, hard to tell from the pic but is the small bracket you are referring to the lighter colored one with the slot in it (bottom left in the pic)?

Another thing I noticed is that the side bracket only looks to be secured by the threaded stud on the side. Nothing is secured to the front of that bracket. I guess they are just trying to support the rear of the radio since the front is secured by the thin knob nuts??

Yes...the small bracket I'm showing is the lighter colored one. It has one mtg bolt (visible) and a positioning tab that goes in the upper hole on the larger bracket.

As for the larger bracket, it is secured to the dash at three points. The radio is only secured on the side post and the two front knob studs.

I think someone in this discussion will know the answer to this question. My front speaker is bad on my 1975 Grand Prix, how much of the dash must I remove to gain access to it? Thank you.

It differs somewhat between non A/C and A/c. i haven't done it but according to the manual you remove the ashtray and center duct if A/C or air inlet duct if non.
