MSD mounting options Empty MSD mounting options

Post by Joe73 Mon Oct 07, 2019 7:34 pm

Anyone have any pics of INTERIOR MSD box mounting locations? Not looking to put it inside the glove box because the directions specifically state not to do so.

Thinking of a small aluminum panel behind the glove box. Or maybe even mounting the box to the outside rear of the glove box. I dont mind if its slightly visible.

Just looking for ideas. My dash isnt in the car yet, so this is just the planning process. My box is already in the glove box area and wired up so the car can run..

Thanks in advance.

Was it on here that someone mounted it inside the cowl upside down? Near the wiper linkage. I saw that someplace.

Yes, I now remember that install. Very cool !!! Thanks for posting.

All my wires are already run into the car nice and clean. The heavy red and black from the msd I ran along with the starter wires, through the metal tube by the starter. The red went directly to the battery cable terminal on the starter. With my mini starter, theres a stud with nut on the rear of it for some reason. So I checked for continuity to ground and it was good. So I put my negative cable to that.

BTW, since I'm not using the stock type alternator bracket, my negative battery cable is bolted to the bottom bolt, front of the block, alongside the fuel pump. I didnt want to mess with the top bolt since that one goes directly into the fuel pump pushrod and can leak oil. I will be putting a heavy braided ground cable to the same bolt on the block with the other end going to the frame.

I'm just going to leave the msd on the passenger side floor for now til the dash goes in to see what I have to work with and fabricate.

Mine is inside the (otherwise empty) heater box.  Behind the heater box and forward of the engine side of the front of dash.

It is accessible from inside the car by reaching through the opening in the front of dash, for maintenance or to change the rev limiter chip.

Ingenious Keith. I like that idea but I have all my heating components intact. Cool idea.
