Steering Empty Steering

My 73 SS has 2 1/2 revolutions lock to lock of my steering wheel.
Is this what they came with from the factory?

That's stock for Monte, and I understand it was standard on GP as well. I believe for all the others it was an extra option, or maybe it was part of the SS package.

I guess I was trying to find out if my steering box was original to my car or not. My steering seams loose, the SS I had back in the early 80's felt much tighter. My car now has 62,000 on it. I have been told it was original. The title had it listed as actual even though cars over 10 yrs old aren't required to have an odometer statement filled out. There is no obvious play in any of the linkage except from the on the output side of the steering box.

Well, I can't speak to play, but total 2.5 turns lock to lock (actually slightly less, more like 2.3) is what I have in the Monte and is about as good as it gets, certainly for stock boxes.

According to GMheritagecenter , no special steering was offered on the SS. My SS is original manual steering.

My SS has the same. I've always been happy with it, the stock steering is really responsive. and when I pull into the driveway, the garage is a 90 degree turn to the left and no need for a 3 point turn Very Happy

HHmmm. maybe I will try adjusting my steering box and if that doesn't do it my upper and lower ball joints may be in the cards.
