Starter motor failure
It seems car began to disassemble after 1.5k miles on the clock
I know I need to check ground cables as this is a common problem when starter only makes a click and doesn't turn the flywheel.
But today I new funny thing appeared. Starter is dead at all when turning IGN on. You can do it several times with no result. But If you go through all gears at the column forward and backward and turn IGN starter becomes alive and turns as there is no problem.
Is it under column switch that makes such a trick???

Re: Starter motor failure
Yes, it is the neutral safety switch. It is designed to only allow the car to be started in Park or Neutral. You might need to replace it. Or you could take a short piece of wire and eliminate that function by using a short wire to bypass it.

Re: Starter motor failure
It is also possible to get out of alignment -- they can shift slightly over the years, you may only need to loosen and adjust it, since it still seems to work when you hit it right. It's at the base of the column near the firewall.

Re: Starter motor failure
I put mine back misaligned on my S10. With just these symptoms, I took it off and put it back on again, no problem.

Re: Starter motor failure
I agree with checking the alignment. I still have the column from my parted out '76 Laguna and I had to twist the collar on the column just a little (clockwise, I think) for the ignition switch to start the car. I didn't adjust the neutral safety switch as I thought of it as kind of a theft deterrent...lol!
