I got a hold of a set of Aero nascar rims, 15x8 and 15x10
I have a set of 275/60-15 tires, nice and tall to resemble a nascar size tire.
The 15x10” rimes have 5” backspacing. Do you think they will fit my 75 Monte with a 275/60, without having to modify the fenders ?

And do you think the tall ballony look, will be much with the 275/60’s on 8” and 10” rims?

You will be fine with the 5" backspacing. The general rule of thumb is to divide the width of the rim in half to get the backspacing. 15x10 rims are good with just about any size tire you can reasonably fit on them. If the actual section width gets to 12" (275mm is 10.8") or more, then you will need to look at the clearances more closely.

As far as the look of the tire, that is entirely personal preference. The 275/60 is a bit tall for my liking, but these cars do look good with them and there are a lot of people running that size tire on these A-body cars right now.

Hey. Have you looked at what size lug nuts and studs that you will need to use with those wheels? Some require a 5/8" stud and a 1" lug nut from what I have read. I want to do the same thing as you and had a thread about it. You can use a 295/60/15 on the rear with the 15x10 with 5" backspacing.

Yes, Aero rims probably use 5/8 studs. Circle track racers generally use that size to reduce the possibility of the studs shearing off under racing conditions. Not a huge issue on the rear drums but the front rotors make for a tight fit from the back. Had to do that to my dirt car because I ran Aero 15x8s. The studs aren't that expensive. Speedway Motors has Them for a few bucks a piece and the nuts are under a buck each.

okay, sounds great. I want that fat nascsr look on the wheel, but I am worried the 275's will look noticably slimmer on the 10" rims, than they will on the 8" rims.

regarding studs... dang, I didn't know this... I'll look into this! thanks for the heads up. So you just punch out the stock studs and put in the new fatter ones? same number of splines and everything?

Unfortunately, no. If they require the 5/8 studs, the holes in the front rotors and rear drums and axles will need to be enlarged to accept the larger diameter of the stud.

argh crap... will the splines on the stud cut into the bore of the drilled holes then? Those long studs look really cool :-)

alowerlevel: yeah that makes sense... with no tire on the 10", it looks like the rim itself would hit the lip on the inner fender, if it could travel that far up.

These tires would be awesome. 28x12x15 on Aero 15x10 with 5.0 BS. I wonder how much of the inner fender that I would have to remove.

Yea sure they will fit if you jack the rear up in the air, but on a car at a normal/stock ride height they would rub.

Heres mine with a 275/60 on a 8" wheel with 4.5" bs

Yes, they press in just like the stock studs. I still have a whole bag full of them somewhere. I was hoping I could find them and take a side-by-side photo.

Alowerlevel: I wouldn't be comfortable with having the sidewall of the tire any closer the fender lip, than what you depicted. I gotta find me a pair of 8" Aero's for the rear then

Zot how long are your studs? Do you have a shot from a little further away?
Trying to decide the lenght of the studs I need. I really like the look of the longer studs.

These are pictures of an all out racing Laguna I found on facebook. The owner is a really nice fella.
Look up Chevrolet Laguna S3 "Super Speedway Special".

Looks like the ones on the front hub are not as long as the ones on the rear.

nothing short of... I have no words. Been chatting with the owner about details on the car. Carbed LS engine. He told me that car has done 225 mph and is now set up to do 275. That car is wicked.275/60-15 on 10” 20993010

Very cool, thanks alot. Looks like the 5/8 studs is really close to a 7 mm drill. I live in a metric part of the world, you know.

By my math, 5/8" should be almost 16mm. 7mm would be more like 9/32"...

Yeah, but the knurl diameter is .685” and I suppose that’s what needs to be taken into account before drilling...?

Feel free to double check my math but 0.671875" (43/64") converts to 17.065625mm. A 17mm bit converts to  0.669291" so it is only .003" smaller than the 43/64" bit and .016 smaller than the knurl diameter

At first I converted .6719 to 17.04, so figured that was close enough, but once you start converting back and forth I can see that, maybe that ain’t close enough.
