Custom hard bed cover
Hey guys, been running silent for a while sorting mechanical stuff out and dealing with work. Getting ready to tackle a new project and was looking for some resources. I would like to fabricate a flush fit hard bed cover. I've noticed that all that is sold for our elco's is soft tonneau snap on's and one framed soft cover. I want to craft a fiberglass or metal bed cover. I've been re-watching season 1 episode 4 of overhauling and trying to see how they built that one and scouring the internet but with little yield.
Anyone on here have any good pics, plans, designs, etc? Any help is appreciated.

Re: Custom hard bed cover
I REALLY don't want one of the old camper shell looking toppers. My end goal for the project is a clean, old school-ish street rod look with some good, hidden utility functionality.
I'm going to be building a sold looking box in the bed for carrying gear to and from the gun range and camping and probably building in some fold down adjustable racks for kayaks and bikes and would like to have a clean, flush with the top of the bed hard cover, painted to match that I can mount a small spoiler too. Street rod by week, adventure vehicle by weekend.
So custom hinged hard cover is my only agreeable option.
EDIT** I just realized you may also be referring to the long sloped from the top of the cab, louvered/windowed monstrosity. To each their own but IMHO that thing is fugly on a level reserved for bar leftovers in a dirty dive in the ghetto on a tues night. If you like them more power to ya, that's just how I feel.

Re: Custom hard bed cover
why not get creative then and cut the sides off then and fill it in by the rear window area where you cut it ? Much easier then fab'ing one up to fit you already know this one fits BUT wont sell this one just to get up too nice ....It was taken off 2 weeks after Arrival from GM dealer and stored since 1973

Re: Custom hard bed cover
not a horrible idea sir, that could work, i wonder if it would be cost effective or how hard it would to find one. does the bottom of that topper mate up all the way to the bottom of the back glass and seal all the way across?

Re: Custom hard bed cover
well after little internet legwork, i'm not finding anywhere to buy those but i'll keep it in mind if i happen to stumble across one somewhere. I bet at least the frame and hardware could be useful.
If you end up taking any pics of it up or the mounting points and hardware i would be most appreciative if you would post them up for me.

I don't know if they went out of business, or what, but the very best hard fiberglass lids were made by http://www.gaylordslids.com/media.php

Re: Custom hard bed cover
I think the Best (maybe) fit will be getting a Truck bed one and cutting down to your liking
