Factory speaker boxes.
Alright guys. It seems that I cannot find factory rear speaker boxes. I could swear that I saw them in the NPD book, but I went through the new one I got a couple weeks ago, and they are not there. I looked on The Paddock's website as well, and nothing. As of now, I only have 2 speakers in my car, and they are in the back window, and they have nothing around them for insulation. I am loosing over have of my sound into the trunk, so, if I put boxes around them, I may not need to install front speakers. I really want factory ones, so when you look up in my trunk, it looks original. Some of you guys here already know me, and some don't. For those that don't, I am huge into the factory look. I want my car to be the way it came from the factory. That's why I got a super holy crap expensive classic radio with an auxiliary input for my car, so I didn't have to cut the dash for a CD player radio(or mount one somewhere else). I do have one original box from the single speaker I removed from the car, but I want to keep the speaker and that box together.
Too, I am well aware of how the factory speaker boxes mounted to the speaker, and the new speakers are not like that. I'll figure something out. I JUST NEED TO GET A HOLD OF THE BOXES! Even if they are used, I don't care. So, if anyone has a decent set of 2 they don't want, PM me!!!!!! Please!!!
Or if you know of a parts supplier that sells them new.
Thanks guys!(girls too )

Re: Factory speaker boxes.
UPDATE.
I dug out an old NPD and Paddock parts books. Wasn't in NPD, but it was in The Paddock, so I searched the part number and they came up as $11.95 a pop. I searched the site yesterday and didn't find them.
Now we're on a roll...

Re: Factory speaker boxes.
are you looking for the speaker baffles? i seen foam ones and plastic ones online and at the auto parts store. i think the factory ones are more of a rectangle shape.
I hid a pair of tweeters in the AC vents, and was planning on adding a pair of 3 1/2" or 4" in the center speaker.

I never gave it much thought of a sound system...

jonny o wrote:C'mon Hydro... you have to think about the sound system!" Personally, what was good for my daddy is good enough for me. When he bought the 74 Elky new, all it had was an AM/FM radio and that is what it still has in it. JB

Re: Factory speaker boxes.
the main purpose of those stock boxes was more to keep road noise from the trunk out of the car than to keep stereo sound in.
it's one of those things that they did to make the cars just a little bit quieter in an age when there was no such thing as a good car stereo system.
they also clean up the look of the trunk.
if your trunk is sealed and you are running decent aftermarket speakers and running a decent amount of power to them- like more than the 10 watts or whatever the stock systems put out- then it will sound better without the baffles. your trunk will act like a huge resonance chamber and amplify the lower end- more boom for your buck, if you will.
just put some decent speakers in the dash to "fill in" the higher frequencies that you lose without the baffles.
