Steel hood scoop! Empty Steel hood scoop!

Post by fasrnur Tue Feb 07, 2017 1:01 am

So after looking at fiber glass hoods and the cost of them after shipping, I found something interesting. Silentknight85 made the comment about his hood possibly coming from US Body Source. I went to their website to look at the hoods they offer. Well, I don't like the idea of a 4" scoop and looked at the flat hood. Low and behold it says you can add a scoop for $50. Okay, I go to the "custom" scoops page and there it is! The solution to my problem. A STEEL weld on scoop and it's a 2 /2" scoop too. SWEET!

Yep, $229 for the scoop. I did see the add a scoop for $50 limey. I've seen, and I'm sure you've seen fiberglass hoods that are not very good quality. I myself like Harwood fiberglass hoods because they are finished top and bottom, but they don't make one for our cars. Not the usual "raw" fiberglass that so many companies offer on the underside. If I'm going to have my hood open at a show, the last thing I want is for people to see an unfinished underside of a hood. About the pin on hood. Have you ever had a backfire or electrical fire under the hood? If you're alone and that were to happen with a pin on hood. Chances are good you're going to be buying a new car. Not too easy to get a pinned on hood off by yourself in a short time. I think.  But that's just me.

Unfortunately,  no one makes a steel hood with any kind of scoop on it for our cars. As for the steel scoop, I know that it would probably cost a bit to have someone else weld it on to a hood, but I'm capable of doing that and the body work to finish it. So, $229 is far less money for me to spend rather than the $350-650 for the hoods out there. And it would be "Steel" Very Happy  Just thought I'd share this for those that might want to do something like this.

I know what you mean Limey. I would be ripping it off with my bare hands if it meant my car not burning to the ground. I like the height of it myself. Our hoods are long enough, I don't need one more thing to see over. lol

I checked out that link. My interest was because I would need a hood scoop if I went to an aluminum intake on my Caddy engine. Edelbrock has one, but it's too high with a stock hood.
The stock manifold is heavy ! Like 56 lbs ( I weighed it), so even a weight savings would be a plus..

I truly wish I had the money for something like this.Steel hood scoop! Img_2010

But I don't. So that's why I'm strongly thinking about a steel weld on Scoop.

Too bad you are not closer to Ohio. This looks like a decent price. Key words "OBO"

Not sure of the weight on the hood 77cruiser. I tried to figure it out by placing an order, but not finishing it in hopes it would say something about what it weighs. The freight charge is C.O.D. OUCH!
73SS, I don't have the money for the hood. I'm no where near Ohio so there's no way to pick it up even if I did have the money.  lol
